שבועות .4 Shavuot (Festival of Weeks/Pentecost)

Fifty days after Passover, Shavuot takes place. It commemorates the revelation of God on Mount Sinai and the giving of the Ten Commandments , and is also known as the "Festival of First Fruits" (the wheat harvest). Fifty days after the first sheaf was offered, a festival was celebrated to mark the end of the grain harvest. The festival is called the Feast of Weeks (Hebrew: shavuot ), Pentecost, or, from the Greek, pentecost (fifty). To celebrate the festival, the men traveled to Jerusalem.

On this day, a reading is made from the Book of Ruth, which tells the story of a Moabite bride who placed all her trust in the God of Israel.

Messianic Jews and Christians especially remember Shavuot because it commemorates the special Pentecost celebration 2000 years ago, as described in Acts 2. The apostles and disciples of Jesus Christ (a total of 120 people) received the Holy Spirit!

The apostles and disciples began to proclaim the good news (the Gospel) of the crucified, risen, and returning Lord and of the coming Kingdom on earth. The "harvest" was not long in coming: 3,000 Jews came to believe in Jesus Christ. They were the firstfruits of the Gospel. Since that "Feast of First Fruits," more "fruit" of believers from Israel and other nations have soon been added. Meanwhile, the gathering of the fruit for Jesus continues throughout the world.
