The LORD who sanctifies you: Adonai Mekoddishken

Adonai Mekoddishkem (יְהוָ֖ה מְקַדִּשְׁכֶֽ)

Then the Lord spoke to Moses. He said, “Tell the people of Israel, ‘You must always keep my Sabbath days. That will be the sign of the covenant I have made between Me and you for all time to come. Then you will know that I am the LORD [YHWH Mekoddishkem], who sanctifies you.” (Exodus 31:13)

This particular name of God, YHWH Mekoddishkem ְהוָ֖ה מְקַדִּשְׁכֶֽ, appears only twice in Scripture - once in Exodus 31:13 and once in Leviticus 20: 8.

Mekoddishkem is derived from the Hebrew word kadosh (קדש), which means to sanctify, to consecrate, or to make holy.

God has consecrated his people and children as holy (kadosch). Since God is holy (1. Samuel 2: 2), He demands that we too should be holy, for without that holiness His incredible power would be cruel.

“You should obey. You shouldn't give in to evil longings. They controlled your life when you didn't know any better. The one who chose you is holy. So you should be holy in all that you do. It is written, “Be holy, because I am holy (kadosch קדש)!" (1 Peter 1:14-16; Lev 19: 2)

Do all of this in love and in obedience for our God. Keep the commandments voluntarily and gladly. As God is love - He gave us rules out of love.
