On Shavuot 2025, I was matter-of-factly informed about this time. "Soon - It's almost time!" – I'm already tired of hearing that phrase. What does this "soon" mean? The Lord was gracious enogh zo give the following explanation.
SOON stands for:
S – stay close to God
O – observe the commandments
O – overcome the temptations
N – never give up hope
Does this statement still hold true? As followers of the Messiah Jesus, we know that much terrible will happen at the end of time. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus explains this in the end-time discourse:
"...many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ, the Savior of God!' And so they will deceive many. You will hear of wars and threats of war. Do not be alarmed! These things must happen, but they are not the end. Nation will fight against nation, kingdom will attack kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. But all this is just the beginning—like the first pains of childbirth." (Matthew 24:4-8, HfA)
When I look back over the last 10 years, I'm horrified to see how these events have increased dramatically. Should I be alarmed by this, or isn't it actually a reason to rejoice, because the Kingdom of God is about to emerge here on earth. We just have to endure, persevere, and adhere to the commandments and God's Word. The temptations will only increase, but with God's help, we can overcome this time.
Jesus explained to us then:
"Then you will be delivered into tribulation and killed, and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. And then many will be offended and will betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and deceive many. And because lawlessness will increase, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end will be saved." (Matthew 24:9-13, KJV)
Peter warned the followers of the Way (Jesus) about the end times:
But the end of all things has drawn near. Therefore be sober-minded and disciplined in prayer. (1 Peter 4:7)
So the Holy Spirit calls us now to be ready, to be sober, to be still and to call upon God.
God himself calls us:
Turn back, repent! Keep my commandments, the commandments I myself wrote on the tablets with my finger. Keep the commandments, especially the first and fourth commandments.
Our heavenly and eternal Father reminds us that He alone is YHWH our God, who freed us from the bondage of Egypt (the world), that Jesus suffered for our sins and died for us on the cross of Calvary. Jesus redeemed us from all sin with his blood. If we follow the path and instructions of Jesus, we will be led back to the Father.
God expects us to keep His Shabbat, that is, Saturday, and His seven holy feast days, because these days are especially important today when everything is in chaos, since every feast of God contains a mystery.
The seven festivals are:
Passover or Pesach
Feast of Unleavened Bread
Feast of Firstfruits = Day of Resurrection
Shavuot = Pentecost
Yom Terua / Rosh HaShanah = Day of the Trumpets
Yom Kippur = Day of Forgiveness
Sukkot = Feast of Tabernacles
What can we do while we wait and persevere? Peter urged us to remain calm and sober in prayer. For me, my daily quiet time has become a time of dialogue with God. This time includes praise = expressing thanks, honoring God; furthermore, studying the Word and reflecting on it; and also listening to what the Lord wants to communicate to us. Take the time – it is incredibly important.
Jesus said: "My sheep know my voice." Do you know this voice? No, then ask the Lord if you would like to hear his voice and take the time to do so. Patience is important in the coming time. Don't do anything rashly or overzealously. It's not for nothing that this year's motto is:
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. (1 Thessalonians 5:21)
The Kingdom of God is near. Our King is on his way. Are you ready to receive the King?
