The month of Elul (Hebrew: אֱלוּל) is particularly dear to me because my soul waits for God and for His Son, my King. This month, I've already had several personal encounters with God's presence. (Link)
In the month of Elul, my soul waits for the meeting with YHWH and YAHshua (Jesus), our King
Elul is the sixth month in God's biblical calendar, or the twelfth and final month of the Jewish civil calendar. It is said that during this month, we prepare our souls for the encounter with Elohim, our God. Elul is a time of preparation for Yom Teruah (Day of Trumpets), also known as Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year), and also for Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement). Both days are known as "days of awe."
God seeks special times to meet us. He first encountered the Israelites on Shavuot (Feast of Weeks/Pentecost) at Mount Sinai. Here on the mountain, He wanted to speak to the entire people of Israel. This happened in a dramatic way, complete with thunder, lightning, and a mighty blast of trumpets, to demonstrate God's holiness and power. The Israelites were frightened by God's manifestation at Sinai and asked Moses to speak to God for them instead of climbing directly up the mountain themselves.
On his first ascent, Moses received the two stone tablets on which the finger of God had written the Ten Commandments. He remained on the mountain for forty days. The people felt abandoned and quickly forgot the miracle of the Red Sea. They wanted a visible God, like the gods they had known in Egypt, and cast a golden calf, which they worshipped. Upon his return, Moses broke the stone tablets in anger. With God's help, he established law and order, and then set out once more to receive the tablets of the law again.
Over the next three months, the Israelites repeatedly tempted God, so on the first of Elul , Moses climbed the mountain a third time so that God would graciously accept the people again. Moses remained there for forty days. He remained on the mountain for the entire month of Elul (30 days) and another ten days until Yom Kippur, the Day of Forgiveness. On Yom Kippur, the sin of God's people was "blotted out and completely forgiven."
The month of Elul is therefore a special time of grace – it is an opportune time in which we, the followers of Jesus, may also ask for grace, where we can prepare ourselves for the encounter with God and with our King.
It's time to seriously repent, pray, and do penance. During this time, I enjoy reading Psalm 130. The Holy Spirit reminded me today of a conversation I had with YHWH in the month of Elul 2021, in which God encourages us to prepare for the arrival of our King.
Prepare for the coming of your King
My child, listen to my voice, listen to my word.
Be alert and watchful, observe the signs of the times.
Prepare for the coming of Jesus.
In this month, the month of Elul, prepare for my highest holidays.
Give thanks to the Feast of Trumpets (Yom Teruah) and the Day of Forgiveness (Yom Kippur).
Take stock and observe yourself;
Purify yourself - repent and return to me.
Turn away from your false ways.
Turn to me and ask me for forgiveness of your sins.
But do not ask for forgiveness only from me, but also from your neighbor,
and forgive those who sin against you.
Seek peace from me and your neighbor.
Be ready at all times, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. (Matthew 24:44 )
Many of you think that you still have a lot of time,
but you do not understand my calculation of time!
My child, wake up, light your candle and await your bridegroom.
Take enough oil with you, be wise,
as wise as the foresighted virgins. ( Matt. 25:1 ff .)
Be wise! Be prepared!
Turn back, repent, and keep my commandments, especially the first and fourth commandments.
Observe my holidays and festivals . This way you'll always have my schedule in mind.
I have given you a new heart and put a new spirit within you.
I have removed the heart of stone from your flesh and given you a heart of flesh. ( Ezek. 36:26 )
The Holy Spirit has written the commandments in your fleshly heart, and therefore it will not be difficult for you to fulfill them.
Hold on to the Word, the Holy Scripture, because Jesus declared back then:
"Until heaven and earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle will pass from the law until all is fulfilled." ( Matthew 5:18 )
Wake up! Wake up! Prepare yourselves!
With love, your heavenly and eternal Father
Out of deep distress Psalm 130
1 A Song of Ascents. Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD.
2 Hear my voice, O Lord; let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.
3 If you, O LORD, mark sins, O LORD, who shall stand?
4 For with you is forgiveness, that you may be feared.
5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits; and in his word I hope.
6 My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning; more than watchmen wait for the morning
7 Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with him there is plenteous redemption.
8 And he will redeem Israel from all his sins.
