Day 21/40 Jesus is the cornerstone and the firm foundation of our faith and his church

Jesus Christ is not only the cornerstone, but also the solid foundation of our Christian faith and his church.

No one can lay any foundation except the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. ( 1 Corinthians 3:11 )

Jesus's church building is compared to building a house. From the blog post ( Day 20/40 ), we know that God builds everything. But we also know that every building requires a cornerstone or cornerstone , as well as a solid foundation .

Jesus' path of redemption—his shedding of blood, his death on the cross, and his resurrection from the dead—can be seen as the groundbreaking of the new church. After Jesus' ascension and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the chosen apostles and the other 120 recipients of the Holy Spirit immediately began building the church. Jesus was the cornerstone and also the foundation of this edifice of faith.

Jesus is the cornerstone

The cornerstone is the supporting stone, especially in natural stone walls, and is the first to be laid. Like every cornerstone, its laying is usually celebrated and remembered for years afterward. The cornerstone is the main support of the entire building. The foundation, or rather, the entire foundation, is then placed around this stone. We could also say that the apostles of that time lined up around this cornerstone. specifies the line direction of a building.

Therefore, it is also written in Scripture: “Behold, I lay in Zion a cornerstone, chosen and precious , and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame” ( 1 Peter 2:6).
So then, you are no longer strangers and aliens, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of God's household (or family members), built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ himself as the cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God by the Spirit. ( Eph 2:19-22 )

Jesus is the foundation

Building a house begins with the foundation , or footing . This foundation's primary function is to bear the house's weight and transfer it into the ground. The ground should not give way. A house built on sand can easily lose its stability. It is best if a house is firmly anchored to the earth or built on rock. Jesus, the Son of God, is our rock .

The apostles of the New Testament built the church on Christ as their rock. The Holy Spirit helped them in this (1 Corinthians 3). Just as their faith was then, so our faith should be firmly founded on our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Only by looking to Jesus as our example can we build a solid house. Jesus explained this to his disciples through the parable of building a house in Matthew 7:24-27 :

Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice will be likened to a wise man who built his house on the rock . When the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds raged and beat against that house, it did not fall because it was founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice will be likened to a foolish man who built his house on the sand. When the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds raged and beat against that house, it fell; and its destruction was great.

Jesus is our rock on which we build

The statement "Jesus is our foundation" emphasizes the central role of Jesus Christ in the Christian faith. He is considered the foundation or foundation of Christian faith and life. This means that everything we Christians believe and do is based on Jesus Christ, his teachings, his life, his sacrifice on the cross, and his resurrection from the dead. On this, we believers build our hope of salvation and forgiveness of our sins. On this, we build our relationship with God.

Faith in Jesus also influences the daily life of every Christian. We strive to follow his teachings, live his love, and embody his values in our actions. We obey the Word and keep the commandments. The idea of Jesus as our foundation serves as a point of orientation and gives us support and security, especially in difficult times. Jesus is our rock. David already recognized this when he wrote in Psalm 92:16:

He is my rock , and there is no iniquity in him! ( Ps 92:16 )

Addendum: You may be wondering why it is said that Peter is the rock upon which Jesus builds the church. A blog post about Peter (Cephas) will be published soon .
